PowerPath LUNs report zero size

owerPath LUNs report zero size

HP-UX Symptoms:

  • LUNs presented from storage randomly report zero size with diskinfo.
  • PV status is unavailable from pvdisplay or vgdisplay
    -v.
  • inq command reports some LUNs are 0 length
  • powermt display reports nothing

First step:

  • powermt check_registration
    Should report Expires: …some date in the future…
    If Expired: …some date in the past… some LUNs may not be functional.
    FIX: Obtain license from EMC, install and then follow next instructions.
  • powermt display  options
    Default storage system class: all
    Show CLARiiON LUN names:      true
    Path Latency Monitor: Off
    Path Latency Threshold: 0 Sec.
    Storage
    System Class  Attributes
    Symmetrix     periodic autorestore = on
    status = unmanaged
    CLARiiON      periodic autorestore = on
    status = unmanaged
    …other storage models…
  • powermt manage class=clarion
    Warning: Device c43t0d0 cannot be managed at this time.
    Warning: Device c47t0d0 cannot be managed at this time.
    Warning: Device c45t0d2 cannot be managed at this time.
    Warning: Device c49t0d2 cannot be managed at this time.
    Warning: The clariion devices listed above will be
    configured upon reboot, or after closing all the
    applications using the devices and issuing another
  • powermt manage (now shows array and devices )
    powermt check (validate LUN paths)
    powermt
    config (setup LUN paths for management)
    powermt
    save (Remember the configuration)

PowerPath should be running OK now. However, some of the devices shown with powermt manage are not part of PowerPath yet. A reboot will fix this or stop all activity on these LUNs and run the
manage
option again.
